Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Parents:
Originally, I wanted to pursue performing arts due to my dance and cheerleading background. I received backlash from my parents because they felt that major would not lead to a sustainable career pathway.
How I responded:
I dealt with this discouragement by continuing to analyze myself and my interests in order to pick a major. She was able to pick a major that I was passionate about and that my parents still approved of.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I am a first-generation college student. Throughout my K-12 education, I felt disconnected with school. This was because of a lack of connectivity with my teachers. However, entering college helped me overcome this disconnection.
