The best lawyers are prepared, determined, and thoughtful. They know how to think strategically and work with others to persuade and accomplish goals.

Milestones

My road in life has been direct.
I've worked in retail and served the public, so I know it's important to treat everyone with respect.
I've managed a political campaign for a local race. There's lots of ways to contribute and help the causes and candidates you care about!
I've clerked in a state appellate court, and I have a lot of respect for the hard decisions that judges make every day.
I've worked in a big law firm, surrounded by talented people who I tried to learn from every day.
I've worked for a manufacturer, and I've felt the pride that comes with seeing how your efforts result in building useful equipment that keeps our economy running.
I'm a wife and mother, and it's hard sometimes to find the right balance, but my family gives me sustaining joy and a driving need to make the future a better place.

A typical day at work involves reading, writing, and talking with others. It is important to collaborate and coordinate with others to make sure I am seeing the whole picture that will incorporate my work and advice.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for college students

Find someone who does what you are interested in doing and reach out to them for an informational interview---breakfast, lunch, coffee, or just a chat by phone. Learn everything you can about what that person's day-to-day life is like and think about how you might bring your own strengths to bear on that kind of work.
