Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

I dropped out of college and helped my brother start his insurance business

  • 2.

My brother sold his agency to take a position that was less demanding and spend more time with his family

  • 3.

I had to learn to fend for myself working in businesses that weren't family businesses.

  • 4.

I was recruited for a position at a managing general agency working on professional liability insurance. It was my first position that was different than what I had been doing for the last 11 years!

  • 5.

I met a colleague who was as passionate about insurance and risk management as I was. We both realized that we wanted more out of our careers.

  • 6.

I was offered a position at an insurance carrier.

  • 7.

I decided to go back to college and finish my undergraduate degree in finance. I was fortunate enough to find a university that allowed me to attend full time while working full time.

  • 8.

I decided to finish my Insurance designation (CPCU) while in school. It started with a plan to prepare and pass one exam every other month.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Peers:

Working for an Insurance Carrier is boring and there is limited growth.

  • How I responded:

In any career field, you will find roadblocks and challenges to overcome. Discouragement and negativity are obstacles to be overcome. Overcoming one obstacle makes new ones easier to face. Have faith in yourself, it is human to stumble and make mistakes. Correcting them will make you stronger.
