Discouragement and negativity are obstacles to be overcome. Overcoming one obstacle makes new ones easier to face.

Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
I dropped out of college and helped my brother start his insurance business
My brother sold his agency to take a position that was less demanding and spend more time with his family
I had to learn to fend for myself working in businesses that weren't family businesses.
I was recruited for a position at a managing general agency working on professional liability insurance. It was my first position that was different than what I had been doing for the last 11 years!
I met a colleague who was as passionate about insurance and risk management as I was. We both realized that we wanted more out of our careers.
I was offered a position at an insurance carrier.
I decided to go back to college and finish my undergraduate degree in finance. I was fortunate enough to find a university that allowed me to attend full time while working full time.
I decided to finish my Insurance designation (CPCU) while in school. It started with a plan to prepare and pass one exam every other month.

Problem Solving

Day to Day

I start my day reviewing my E-mails and checking my calendar. In the mornings I usually try to wrap up easy tasks and plan the rest of my day. From there I answer questions for my brokers, peers, and supervisors. I crunch numbers and like to track my performance, and get to discuss risks and evaluate them with my colleagues.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone
