  • 2.

Could not find work in my profession. Started working at this company as a temp

  • 3.

Got married & divorced early in life. It was my fault because I did not understand the commitment marriage required

  • 4.

My career path was very slow, first because of the challenges in the workplace for people of color

  • 5.

My career continued at a slow pace not because of my lack of skill or knowledge but because without a degree, I didn't quality for most opportunities

  • 6.

Hard work and commitment to learning and improving, paid off. I took additional college classes as I could afford them.

  • 7.

My efforts and results were noticed & I was provided with more opportunities. With each task conquered, more opportunities arose.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

You will never make a manager's position without a degree and I also faced a lot of adversity due to racial tensions and preconceptions of my abilities during the beginning of my career

  • How I responded:

I continued to do what my heart led me to do. I committed to following my heart and used each small success as motivation to take the next step. Every achievement led to more motivation and confidence and the more confidence I gained, the less resistance I met.
