Day to Day

It sounds cliche, but the only thing typical about my job is that it's atypical. I may be in a school talking to students about the perils of bullying, reviewing a school's youth programs with them, or at the government center with peers trying to cook up the next great way to help Hoosier youths! I also do the program's social media, so if there's something fun that I get to post on our accounts, that breaks up the day nicely, too! After work, then it's on to basketball practice at the school.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

Flexibility, dealing with pressure, and finding creative solutions to problems probably have aided me more than any "classes" I did in school. I created my own problems at times in school by not being as serious with it, but what I learned from all of that failure was how to bounce back, deal with things when they don't go the way you want them to, persevere, deal with lots of different types of folks, and work with your back against the wall. I'd just suggest not putting your own back there!

The Noise I Shed

""You'll never get anywhere" or "you can't do that" were themes I heard pretty often, especially as I struggled through college and several years after. It didn't hit me until almost 10 years out of school where I was really meant to be in the world."

The old adage, "the 2 most important days in your life are the day you're born and the day you find out why" is true. Find what you're truly passionate about & pour everything into it. Surround yourself with positive vibes. Recently, after YEARS of going down dead end paths, I achieved my big dream of being a head varsity basketball coach in the inner city. I couldn't have done it without committing to seeing things in a more positive light, and trusting in God and my family to take me there.
