Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Teachers:

You can't work with minorities, you're a white woman.

  • How I responded:

The professor who said that to me successfully discouraged me from doing a dissertation related to minorities and the arts. Every time I help a student of color achieve one of their educational goals, I prove to that professor that I can work in minority communities AND make a difference!
