Day to Day

Usually, my day begins at 7 am at school to work on tasks that range from academic counseling, grades, student schedules, dual credit, credit recovery, master schedule, Grad plans, testing of all kinds, contacting students or parents, CTE tasks, enrolling new students, visiting with teachers/staff/administrators, checking on students, and more.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

Compassion and enthusiasm to assist all students and parents during high school years to reach goals. To always remember that everything you do is for the students.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

To become a counselor in public education, I would recommend visiting several school districts of all sizes to see just what all counselors do throughout the day, week, month, and year. If still interested in counseling, be a classroom teacher to become familiar with the education process.

Hurdles

The Noise I Shed

From Society in General:

"Girls aren't accountants. Art doesn't pay. Why did you change from accounting career to interior design and retail? Why did you go into education when you were successful in interior design and retail areas? You are not a real counselor. "
