Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
Returned from Brazil in 1974 and went through a culture shock.
Not sure of what I was going to do because I was not accepted into nursing school, went to a private college for home economics. Really!
Worked at 7-11, worked in a hotel as a housekeeper, worked in fast food.
Started taking pre-requisites for Nursing school.
Started a diploma nursing school, but became involved in a relationship, got married, & had a baby.
I signed up for nursing school at a community college without letting my husband know, worked 2 jobs to support family.
Husband not happy with me being smarter than he was and ridiculed me.
Divorced and kept moving forward and not looking back. Thanks to my Mom and Dad!

Day to Day

Our unit is a very busy medical surgical unit with 85+ FTE's. We have high acuity patients. Work with the University of Miami as a teaching institution. I work with our nurses that are variable in educational levels. I mentor all the nurse's on the unit to bring additional knowledge to the bedside. I have started a Research Council, working on creating a pain management council. Looking at adopting a new nursing middle range theory to implement in our hospital.
