My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
I met a fellow high school band member who encouraged me to join the drama club to meet people.
2.
I wrote a musical my sophomore year of high school. It wasn't great. But it got me experience!
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Theatre isn't a reliable job. There's no such thing as a Theatre teaching job. Maybe the last year before you retire, you'll get to teach a class.
How I responded:
Use college to try out different avenues. Minors, certifications, temporary jobs, and activities all help to make you more experienced and marketable, as well as opening up opportunities to make professional connections.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I wasn't "poor," but we certainly grew up very aware of the cost of things. I worked three jobs to get through college, taking out loans and applying for scholarships. I used all of this to try to further myself professionally, as well.
