Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Parents:

Don't go into the field of education, it never has and never will pay very well.

  • How I responded:

I knew that my passion was aligned to helping others learn AND love learning - a lifelong skill that I knew could enrich their lives and future choices, while simultaneously providing me with fulfillment knowing that I was making a difference. I also had a sense that by following my passion, I would find a way to make the money necessary to have a good life.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • It was an a-ha moment when I realized there are MULTIPLE ways to solve a problem - rather than assuming there was one right way to solve problems. Seems obvious - but I was liberated when I learned that principle!
