Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Peers:
You can't be a programmer because all programmers are men.
How I responded:
I knew I would be in the minority when studying computer science. I focused on doing the work as best as I could and helping others that needed help so they could see that I was competent in the field.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I took out loans and worked summers and during school to finance my college experience. I had many a day when I had no more than $7 in my bank account! Several professors would invite us over for meals and provided encouragement to keep going.
