My road in life has been direct.
I knew I liked working with people and wanted to make a difference.
Had really solid, positive, life-changing experiences with my own teachers.
Knowing the positive roles they had in my life, wanted to use my passion to help others.
Worked as Jewish Education teacher at Camp JRF, which taught me classroom management skills.

Day to Day

As I said, I'm still a student, but my imagined "great day" includes teaching several classes, encouraging students to take ownership of their education. I would hope, as much as possible, to create a discussion based learning environment. Furthermore, I would hope to meet with several students individually if they need, because I believe solid student-teacher relationships creates a safe, warm educational community. This leads to safe vulnerability, and ultimately, the best learning.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for high school students

Build solid relationships with your teachers. I went to a small high school that made these sorts of relationships easier, but I think with a little effort you can do it anywhere. Having these great relationships with my teachers has not only provided me with a much appreciated sense of mentorship, but also has provided me with some fantastic models of how I want my classroom environments to operate and feel.
