Milestones

Milestones

My road in life has taken me all over.
Learned meditation at age of 8. Taught by my 3rd grade school teacher.
Curiosity after reading The Power of Myth in college led me to search for a yoga studio home.
Divorce with two small children helped me to focus on being present with my kids in order to heal.
Was laid off from soul-sucking corporate job. Took the leap and created my own yoga business.
Took a job as a teacher at Fusion Academy, education with soul.

Day to Day

I teach a number of subjects at Fusion Academy to junior high and high schoolers, including my passions, Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation. I also run Imagine Yoga, the business I co-created where I teach private one on one yoga classes and group workshops at yoga studios and yoga festivals. All of my yoga classes include intention-setting and meditation. Most of my classes include journaling/writing.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

It is important that a yoga teacher continue practicing as a yoga student, regularly. To become a certified yoga teacher, one must go through an intense training where the philosophy and history of yoga is taught along with practicum. Passion to help empower others into their best selves is essential.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for high school students

Begin learning the art and science of meditation. Begin a physical yoga practice. Begin finding ways to cultivate and live a life you are proud of. Stay curious and ask yourself questions about how things make you feel. How do you WANT to feel?

The Noise I Shed

"You're a single mom now, go get a real job like every other single mom who sacrifices herself."

I got very still and practiced what I teach. I took deep breaths back into my own self. I asked myself why I wanted to become a yoga teacher/mentor. I realized the need in me to do that was greater than the need to make sense to others about my choices.

Challenges I Overcame

Financial
Financial

When I chose to create my own business I had no savings and financial backing. I was hustling to make ends meet, teaching a lot, doing odd jobs, and trading services.
