Day to Day

I sign in to the front office at 6:45, say hi to the secretaries who get there at 6, and open my classroom. In setting up my class, I check my powerpoint, print the agenda and learning target required by my admin, and then the day starts. Always on my feet, I lecture, ask and answer questions, check homework, reward positive behavior and learning gains, and talk to those who don't. I sign out at 6 and head home to grade and lesson plan while watching my favorite TV show until 9, then zzzzzz.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for high school students

If you want to be a teacher and you are in high school, interview the happiest and the least happy teachers on your school campus. Interview your administration, even your deans or assistant principals. Ask them why they are at the school, what they love about their jobs, what they hate about their jobs, and advice they would give to someone who wants to be a teacher. Don't go into teaching without knowing what it is like! THEN, find the best universities that have education programs and GO!
