My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
My mother and father got divorced my freshman year of college and both moved out of state.
2.
Knowing that it was sink or swim from that point shaped my professional career.
3.
Taking a job at a deli right out of college was the only job I could find.
4.
Showing up early, working hard, and staying late helped mold me into who I am today.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Peers:
Smart people are nerds.
How I responded:
When you're in school everyone tries to tell you to "fit in and be cool." Somehow being smart is not seen as being cool, and being different is even worse. Success in life to me is cool and being the same is lame. Be the best person you can be, not what others think you should be.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I learned very early in life that you could either tread water or swim. In other words you could do the minimum to survive, or you could put forth the effort and succeed. Just because THEY didn't or couldn't do it doesn't mean that YOU can't or shouldn't.
