Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Family:
You're wasting my time and money doing what you're doing. You're not getting anywhere any time soon.
How I responded:
I was fueled by my own ambitions and passion to get to where I am. You have to let the noise be just that-noise, and be able to overcome those that don't have the faith in you or the thought that you can become so much more. I remember a time when I had two members in my family not see any potential in me, and call what I was doing a 'waste.' Not until I was moving up the ladder did that member in my family start to change their opinion on it. Be fueled by what people say, not discouraged.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
My family didn't have the finances to pay for college. Instead, I was able to apply for loans and find a company to work for that would help me pay for college and complete my degree. Don't push your passion to the side.
My brother went to culinary school, but not the traditional college. My family didn't know exactly what to expect when I started. Don't live life to the 'status quo.' Create your own brand and become that role model that you want others to see of you.
