Get good grades and do some work in your community. Get to know what is going on in your community and connect with people.

I didn't have anyone to help me and had to take out loans and go to a community college first to transfer.

They would see me traveling to inner city schools checking on where the kids are at in their post secondary goals. Entering data into our software system and planning for the next day.
