A great day would begin with spending time with a new client and learning what that person's vision is with their environment and learning about their lifestyle. My business partner and I would probably go brainstorm a plan over lunch, and head off to the design center. We would look through catalogues for furniture and fabrics for colors and textures. Our goal is to find at least one fabric to be our inspiration that we can build on. We'll gather all we can to give our client options.
Advice for Getting Started
Here's the first step for professionals
I actually worked for a design company and learned valuable knowlege in the business. I worked with 4 designers and learned "on the job" at first by shadowing them until I was ready to go on my own. I really studied the catalogues and all the resources available to me. I got to know many contractors and after 6 years I started my own business with one of the other designers. We have been in business for almost 10 years and really have enjoyed every part of it.
