Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Parents:

I really did not get Noise from my parents. They were always about doing something I was interested in. My dad said a degree in marketing would open up lots of opportunities...it has.

  • How I responded:

Do what you love and the journey is much more fulfilling. But, how do you know what you love? You have to experience doing "something" to know whether you like it and/or are good at doing it. Spend time with others doing what you think you want to do - there is nothing more affirming than being able to ask questions of someone that has walked a path you might like to walk.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Society says that you graduate from HS, go to college, get married, have kids, buy a house, etc. All of this can add a significant financial burden. Don't build a life that you cannot support. Then, your vocation is all about making more money.
