Milestones

My road in life took a while to figure out.
Joined AmeriCorps after I graduated college and assisted a recreation center and ran a summer camp.
Spent 6 months doing a work exchange program at Kalani Retreat Center on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Helped lead an Alternative Spring Break program for college students in Newark, NJ.
Returned to the summer camp I had ran previously when I was in AmeriCorps.
Moved in with a boy in Baltimore, MD and hated most everything, teaching me a whole lot.
Returned to a town that nurtured me and established my photography business.
Bought a pop-up camper and booked weddings in the western US...bon voyage!

Being Creative

Day to Day

I am a freelance wedding and children's photographer, so I work from home in my tiny apartment or soon-to-be pop-up camper. I spend a lot of time trying to market myself on social media, or by making flyers to try and put my name out there more. I shoot 5-7 weddings per year, and since I travel so much, it's difficult to book. After a session, I spend a lot of time editing on my computer, which I very much love. Showing my clients the final package of digital images or prints is always great too.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for college students

Don't let them tame you. Be as wild as you wish. Think illogical things. Throw the word "practical" to the birds and delve into your own mind, your own soul, your own dreams. If you want it badly enough, you will make it happen. Don't compare yourself to anybody else in the field either. Everybody has to start somewhere, and even the fanciest of photographers took terrible photos at one point too. Keep going. Only compare yourself to who you were yesterday.
