Governor
I head the government's executive branch in Nevada.
Listening is very important in my position. A lot of leaders don't listen as much as they should because they think they have the best ideas. It's important to be able to listen to others and realize when they may know more or be stronger in certain areas than you. You also need to learn to be detail-oriented. I have to do a lot of follow ups in my position to check on those details and make sure nothing is falling through the cracks.
Here's the first step for everyone
Set your goals and then keep your options open as best as possible. Not everyone can reach a certain goal sometimes because it's just not possible. For example, 10 people may have wanted to be governor but all 10 can't get elected. Do things that will direct you towards the goals you've set so that you give yourself the best chance of achieving that goal, but keep your options open because things change along the way.
"You need to fix everyone's problems."
