Advice for getting started
When I was considering switching from pre-law to nursing, I was afraid of all of the science classes. I didn't think I was strong enough in the sciences to succeed through the program. My advisor encouraged me to pursue it because I had already taken some of the prerequisites. I had the desire to become a nurse and also had the compassion needed for the profession, so I persevered through the difficult classes and ultimately graduated with my nursing degree!

My path in life has been direct
1.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
2.
I knew early on that I wanted to go into the medical field after an elementary school teacher explained what an obstetrician does.
3.
In high school, I learned that I was pretty good at the debate team, so I actually started out in college as a pre-law major.
4.
After quickly learning that law was not for me, I transitioned to nursing and earned my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Temple University.
5.
I also went on to earn my master’s degree in nursing administration from Drexel University.
6.
I’ve been working as a registered nurse for the past 22 years now!
7.
During that time, I also founded Delta Excellence Home Healthcare, a home health care agency in Philadelphia.
8.
I am currently matriculating through my PhD in nursing education.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I had my first son during my first year of college. He was premature, so I had to leave school to take care of him. I was determined to become a nurse, so when my son was stable enough, I wrote to the university and they allowed me to come back.
