Life & Career Milestones
My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
I majored in political science and English, and assumed I’d end up going to law school.
2.
While working at a law firm, I was miserable, craving creativity, and really starting to feel like this might not be the right path for me.
3.
A mutual friend introduced me to West Wing Writers, and I applied the same day I signed up for LSAT classes—I decided I’d choose whichever one came to fruition first.
4.
As fate would have it, I joined West Wing Writers, where I fell in love with speechwriting’s collaborative nature.
5.
My humor writing background gave me an unexpected edge—I learned that jokes could break tension and connect across divides.
6.
A few years later, I got the opportunity to write speeches for the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations during the Biden Administration.
7.
When the administration changed, I came back to West Wing Writers with a new sense of purpose: to write boldly, teach generously, and keep passing the mic.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Myself:
I shouldn't raise my hand for this. Who gives me the right to be here?
How I responded:
I used to feel a lot of imposter syndrome early on in my career. I was in my 20s writing for very important people—leaders of the free world. Who gave me the right to be here? Humor became a great equalizer for me. Making people laugh helped me remember why I belonged here. Trusting my voice, leaning on teammates, and seeing my words resonate helped me quiet the Noise that I didn't belong.
