Milestones

My road in life has taken me all over.
I’ve always had an interest in public service and knew from a young age that I wanted to become a teacher.
I began my college journey at a community college and then completed my bachelor’s degree in history and political science through Harvard University’s extension studies program.
I started my teaching career as a substitute teacher and then moved on to become a Teach for America corps member.
I then taught U.S. history, government, and economics at Central High School in Lowndes County, Alabama, for three years.
I made a shift to Capitol Hill where I worked as a legislative fellow and then a legislative assistant.
I now work as the Director of the Governor's Office of Education and Workforce Transformation for Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

Many people in my field start out by working on campaigns. Volunteering your time to work on a campaign is a great way to gain experience and meet people in this field. Other points of entry are policy fellowships and internships.
