Day In The Life Of A PICU Nurse

My Day to Day

Each day is different depending on the patient. I could have a patient with a common cold that just needs a little more escalation of care or I could have a patient with a very severe trauma. You don't really know what you'll get until you start the day.

Skills & Education

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Nursing

    Nova Southeastern University

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

I always knew I wanted to be a nurse, so I went straight into college for nursing after graduating high school.

  • 2.

After nursing school, I was hired as a float pool ICU nurse, which means I was trained to work in all of the ICUs—neonatal ICU, cardiac ICU, and pediatric ICU.

  • 3.

While working as a float pool nurse, I also trained to be a vascular access nurse.

  • 4.

After having my first child, I decided to switch over to the pediatric ICU full-time.

  • 5.

Through the PICU, I’ve also become an ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) specialist.
