Day In The Life Of A President Of A University System

My Day to Day

I work collaboratively as a catalyst for all of the academic leaders across the university, including academic leaders building curriculum, deans leading the schools, and research lab leaders. I also do work with our technology infrastructure as well as K-12 and community partners of the university. Being a university president means that you need to be multilingual. Any given day, you need to context switch depending on who you're meeting and working with.

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

    I earned my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Arizona State University in organizational communication.

  • 2.

    I followed those degrees up with a doctorate degree in educational leadership from the University of Texas at Austin.

  • 3.

    I built my career in education working in a variety of different sectors, but the red thread throughout my career has been helping more and more diverse students become successful in higher education.

  • 4.

    I’ve gained experience in K-12 education, community colleges and other higher education, and organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

  • 5.

    I currently work as the president of National University, a nonprofit association of seven colleges focused on providing accessible and achievable higher education to adult learners.

  • I was a first-generation learner. If it wasn't for community college, I wouldn't be in the position I am now. I was able to find accessible education and pay my way through school in order to set myself up for success.
