My path in life has been direct

I entered Columbia University unsure of what career I wanted, so I studied psychology knowing it could give me a foundation for many different paths.
2.
When the COVID-19 pandemic canceled my basketball season, I took a gap year to preserve my athletic eligibility and look for new opportunities.
3.
During my gap year, my coach connected me with a nine-month internship at Bailard that introduced me to sustainable and responsible investing.
4.
That internship helped me build a foundation in sustainable investing and uncovered a passion for aligning investments with people’s values.
5.
After graduating, I spent a year and a half in consulting, gaining new experiences while finding myself pulled back toward sustainable investing.
6.
I stayed connected with my former manager at Bailard, and that relationship eventually opened the door for me to return to the firm.
7.
I returned to Bailard as a sustainable, responsible, and impact investing research analyst, bringing together my interests in finance and giving back.

You're not allowed to speak up if you're in a junior role or new to the industry.
How I responded:
Some firms have a strict hierarchy and it can be challenging to find power in your voice when there are unspoken rules about who should speak up. I learned that being junior doesn’t mean I know less or that my voice is less important. Finding a workplace that uplifts my voice has helped me become more comfortable speaking up. I’ve learned to trust myself and my ideas. You don’t know the power of your voice until you start using it.
