[MUSIC] We're taking a road trip from New Mexico down to DC. &gt;&gt; Three educators from three different walks of life. &gt;&gt; Throughout this journey we are interviewing folks in education, trying to discover the meaning of expanding student success. &gt;&gt; What can we do to make sure we're looking at the whole person in all aspects, not just the child? &gt;&gt; Academics on one side and we have the other side of our emotional growth. &gt;&gt; Making sure everyone's basic needs are covered. &gt;&gt; We know kids aren't going to learn if they're hungry or uncomfortable. &gt;&gt; We do this for the success of all children. &gt;&gt; What development do we have as educators to share with these kids? &gt;&gt; In order to do that, we have to give ourselves permission to be whole. &gt;&gt; As a future leader, I am committed to finding that perfect balance so that the whole child is cared for. &gt;&gt; All of the research shows that if you take care of all these other things, they're gonna do much better. And if they see themselves in the communities that they live in, and that's what they do much better on the academic performance. &gt;&gt; Every little learner that walks through our door is living, breathing curriculum, you can learn from them. Truly being connected with your journey, that's what I teach our babies. Live your life. [MUSIC] &gt;&gt; I've always talked about what I want to do to improve other people, but I think that this was an opportunity to figure out what I want. &gt;&gt; The nature of being on the road brings you back to what you value and gives you a chance to reflect on what you need to then be able to give to everyone else. &gt;&gt; Because you are able to communicate with them, that makes you guys the best leaders possible. You're bringing so much that these young people need and it is your love and your passion and your desire that's gonna help them go forward. &gt;&gt; It's amazing how many people have seen my potential throughout this trip, my vision has expanded. The work that comes with that is gonna have to expand now too. &gt;&gt; I think it just all aligned for me to be open to possibilities that I had shut out. &gt;&gt; If we wanna, quote, unquote, fix the system, I have to be part of the collaboration to make sure that every kid gets what they deserve. &gt;&gt; You are more powerful than you realize and they need somebody brave. [MUSIC]
