Advice for getting started
I'd recommend doing a two-year community college program. Speak with a counselor to see what's available for farming and agriculture. Take time to understand the demographics of where you want to produce, where you're going to sell, and who your customer is.
Here's the path I took:
GED
Certification
Heavy Equipment Operator
Pearl River Community College
Vocational
Mississippi Volunteer Firefighter

Animal Behavior
Animal Behavior College
Life & Career Milestones
I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
From a very young age, I always wanted to be a wife, a mother, and a farmer.
2.
I left high school, earned my GED as an adult, and built practical skills by earning certifications in heavy equipment, firefighting, emergency medicine, and animal behavior.
3.
After meeting my husband, we turned our shared dream of farming into a reality.
4.
While exploring our land, we discovered wild mushrooms, sought out mentors, and began teaching others about mushroom foraging on our farm.
5.
From there, we expanded our farm by cultivating mushrooms, growing produce, and creating educational experiences centered on conservation and sustainable agriculture.
6.
As our knowledge grew, we learned natural beekeeping from experienced mentors and founded MisBEEhaving Bee’s to produce chemical-free honey.
7.
Over time, I combined my love of marketing, education, and farming to build Shroomdom Inc. and share what we've learned with visitors from around the world.
8.
Today, I continue caring for our farm, mentoring others, and helping people reconnect with nature through sustainable farming and lifelong learning.
Defining Moments
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
While earning my GED at the local community college, I had a teacher who encouraged me to succeed despite my dyslexia and learning disabilities. I learned that those differences would never define what I could achieve.
