President
I lead the students and faculty as president of a community college.
Working in college administration means that no two days are the same. As president of the college, it's my responsibility to make sure our faculty and curriculum are setting students up to go into the world, adapt to the changes in technology, and make an impact.
Leadership skills are paramount. There's a lot of literature about the concept of urgent leadership. As a leader, you need to be able to convey a vision and communicate that that vision needs to be worked towards now. As a leader, self-reflection and the ability to change and adapt will take you far. I think it's also important for everyone to learn technical skills. No matter what field you're in, technical skills (for example, the ability to code) will be critical as the world develops.
Here's the first step for college students
Take advantage of the more mature mentors you have access to, especially in a college environment. They have a lot of experience and are usually very willing to give advice and help you succeed.
"You need to focus on one discipline."
