Advice for getting started
I believe that experience is the most important thing for getting into the IT and cybersecurity industry. However, in order to gain experience, you need to get your foot in the door. Certifications are a good way to do that. They show a company that you put in some effort on your own to continue your learning outside of a degree program.
Here's the path I took:
High School
Bachelor's Degree
Management Information Systems
University of Central Florida
Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in management information systems from the University of Central Florida.
2.
I started my career on the Unix system, working on mainframes and databases.
3.
As I gained experience, I realized that I wanted to steer my career more towards cybersecurity.
4.
That path led me into management roles and I became the chief information officer for a multibillion dollar bank, where I oversaw IT and cybersecurity.
5.
I eventually moved on and got into cybersecurity consulting.
6.
I got connected with RBS IT Solutions through consulting and now work as the company’s director of operations.
