Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
After college, I joined the U.S. Navy because I wanted to do something for others—I spent six years serving at home and in Lisbon, Portugal.
2.
I returned home to Indiana and started volunteering in government, which led to a job working for a member of Congress.
3.
I joined the team of a leader I believed could move Indiana forward, worked for him for 10 years, and even wrote a book about his service.
4.
I went on to work for a U.S. senator before becoming lieutenant governor of Indiana, continuing to build my career around public service.
5.
When the governor’s office opened up, my wife and I decided to throw our hat in the ring, and I was fortunate enough to be elected.
6.
I spent eight years as governor, focusing on economic, workforce, and community development to help Hoosiers improve their quality of life.
7.
Today, I co-chair Raise Us, helping workers navigate an AI-infused economy and prepare for how technology is changing the workforce.
