Day In The Life Of A CEO Of A Youth Tech Nonprofit

My Day to Day

My day-to-day constantly shifts. One moment, I’m collaborating with our team to ensure our tech programs are relevant for the next generation, and the next, I’m partnering with community leaders to expand our outreach. What drives me every day, though, is watching students light up when they realize they’ve built something amazing. Their growth and joy remind me why I do this work, despite the administrative tasks that fill much of my time.

Skills & Education

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Health Science

    Wake Forest University

  • Graduate Degree

City Planning, Urban Design & Development

    University of Pennsylvania

Life & Career Milestones

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

  • 1.

I earned my undergraduate degree in health science from Wake Forest University.

  • 2.

I began my career with Teach for America, teaching fifth and sixth-grade ESL in Houston, Texas, which sparked my passion for education and system-level change.

  • 3.

After teaching for two years, I decided to move back home and go back to school, earning my graduate degree in city and regional planning from the University of Pennsylvania.

  • 4.

My husband and I co-founded Coded by Kids, a nonprofit focused on giving underrepresented youth the skills to succeed in the tech industry.

  • 5.

As the CEO of Coded by Kids, I lead our team in creating relevant, up-to-date tech education programs to prepare students for high-wage tech careers.

  • 6.

In addition to Coded by Kids, I also launched the One Philadelphia initiative, working to make Philadelphia a national hub for equitable tech, where the workforce reflects the diversity of the city.
