Day In The Life Of A Purpose And Career Coach

Skills & Education

Advice for getting started

My mother was verbally abusive and most of the abuse was centered on my career. She would tell me that I won't succeed or amount to anything. That Noise is where a lot of my drive stems from. I'm proving it wrong. In my work as a coach now, I help other women transcend Noise like that and find work that fulfills them personally.

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    International/Global Studies

    University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

  • Certification

    Elementary Education and Teaching

    Rio Salado College

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

I lived in China until I was ten years old and then moved to Chicago, Illinois.

  • 2.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I studied international studies, French, and business.

  • 3.

After graduating, I started my career as a teacher with Teach For America—I was placed at a Title I school in Phoenix, Arizona.

  • 4.

I went back to school to earn a certificate in elementary education and teaching from Rio Salado College while continuing to work as an elementary school teacher.

  • 5.

I spent four years teaching but ultimately decided that it wasn’t the right fit for my personality, so I moved back to Chicago to work in sales and marketing for a couple of tech start-ups.

  • 6.

I pivoted again to work in fundraising for a nonprofit.

  • 7.

Throughout my journey, I had been coaching my girlfriends as a hobby and I finally decided to turn that hobby into a business.

  • 8.

I created Moonrise Purpose Coaching, through which I help women make a mid-career pivot and find work that fulfills them.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Parents:

    You'll never amount to anything.

  • How I responded:

My mother was verbally abusive and most of the abuse was centered on my career. She would tell me that I won't succeed or amount to anything. That Noise is where a lot of my drive stems from. I'm proving it wrong. In my work as a coach now, I help other women transcend Noise like that and find work that fulfills them personally.
