Milestones

My road in life has been direct.
I grew up in Los Angeles, California.
While in college, I started gaining experience in social justice and community organizing.
I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in political science and spent two years working as a community development organizer.
I went back to school and earned my Master of Public Administration degree from New York University with an emphasis in civic engagement.
After graduating, I got a job as the director of Christian service for Verbum Dei High School, where I spent two years working in community service in the education space.
I’m now working as a senior community organizer for Innovate Public Schools, a nonprofit that helps parents and educators improve public schools.

Day to Day

I spend a lot of time in meetings. I'll have one-on-one meetings with either parents or leaders in the education space where I focus on figuring out where we can find common values and interests, and where we can move together. I also have group meetings where we bring together community members to talk through community issues and values.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

Ask yourself what challenge in the world calls to you the most. What brings you the most heartbreak? Sit with that on an emotional level and really think about it. Then think about what your biggest strengths are. Once you know those two things, you can start following that direction into your calling. Your calling is where the world's greatest needs meet your biggest strengths.
