Day In The Life Of An Executive Director Of A Homeschool Network

My Day to Day

My work varies from day to day. A typical day when we meet in-person includes setting up our facility, as we share it with a church, monitoring the students in classes, and breaking down the facility. I also meet with parents to help them in their homeschool journey, maintain communication, find and plan field trips, and plan special events, like our Annual Awards and Graduation Ceremony. My job requires a lot of delegation and teamwork.

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

I initially planned to become a lawyer but realized my passion for teaching during a teen court program in high school.

  • 2.

Preparing to teach, I earned a bachelor’s degree in math education and a master’s degree in education with a specialization in curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

  • 3.

After becoming a certified math educator, I taught high school and gained insights into the educational system’s challenges.

  • 4.

Inspired by my children’s needs and my desire to shape their early learning, I began homeschooling with a focus on values and independence.

  • 5.

When I couldn’t find an inclusive homeschool group, I created one, starting with meetings at my local library in 2012.

  • 6.

I transformed my small group into the EPIC Homeschool Network, becoming a nonprofit in 2016 to expand resources and support for families.

  • 7.

I also co-founded the Georgia Black Home Educators Network, working collaboratively to address diverse needs, including neurodiversity, through conferences and resources.
