Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana.
2.
I was studying film at the University of Oklahoma and was happy and doing well—but when Hurricane Katrina hit, I had a change of heart and decided to move back home.

I moved back to New Orleans and decided to finish school and earn my degree in Spanish; however, I didn’t really have a plan for after college.
4.
Unsure of the path I wanted to take, I knew I was technically qualified to teach, so I took a job as a Spanish and world history teacher at the same K-12 school I had graduated from.
5.
After deciding I wasn’t where I wanted to be, I went back to school for my master’s and doctoral degrees—all the while, I kept teaching.
6.
When I started teaching at my current school, my dad had recently passed away and I was at a low point—that’s when I started dancing with students and using social media to have more fun with my job.
7.
Since then, I’ve been using dancing and music to have fun and connect with my students.
Defining Moments
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
When I started teaching at my current school, I was burnt out and wasn't enjoying work at all. I started dancing and using social media to spark my energy and have fun. A few years later, I feel like I'm in the sweet spot of my career.
My dad passed away at the same time that I started teaching at Bellaire High School. The trauma only added to the dark place I was already in. It took me focusing on myself and choosing to have fun and be authentic in order to feel connected.
