I do value education a lot. But I would say, Kind of for a different reason now. Before, when I was growing up is more like okay, if I get my education, my college degree, and then get a career and I'll have money and Like my own house and what not. But now I'm at a point where money isn't as important to me as just being happy, which has a lot to do with depression. [MUSIC] My name is Ray Serani. I go to Georgia State University and I was born in Karachi, Pakistan and then I moved to US, what else for? So my upbringing was pretty, is pretty strict. I mean, yeah, growing up like the number one thing, education, So, yeah, definitely had to go to school, going to school and always doing your homework and stuff for each. Stamped into me from childhood. [MUSIC] In high school from 10th grade, all the way to sophomore year like college, like, I was just, like severely depressed in those first two years like, through 10th grade and 11th grade. I didn't, I didn't know it. I just thought, okay, like, I hate stuff. I hate a lot of things and it is what it is, I guess. It was like a lot of irrational thoughts and Like typical things with depression, there was like, it was all check check check for me.And senior year, like second semester, like in January, we are really I was, so tired of everything. So, I had attempted, suicide that time. And then, yeah, that just changed a lot of things. Up until like sophomore year of college like, I was still suffering from depression, but I was going to therapy, and on medication antidepressants Yeah. And I would research some things on my own about it and. You know, seemed pretty interesting. And that's kind of how I got into psychology. I was a business major in my first 2 years. But then after 2 years of business, I can't do this and then at the start of junior year, I was deciding between okay, am I just gonna go that safe route of business and I thought about it for a while or am I gonna, should I go with psychology because I like it,i really enjoy it. I'm at a point where I think where money isn't as important to me as just being happy. I know what it feels like to be Like, not be happy for a really long time.So you know, whether it is like small things or big things that make me happy, that just feel so much better. [LAUGH] And I think I have become more like, try to just become more bold and do things my way. Which really is important to me. Yeah, I do think I don't want to go like the typical route. So I went with psych. And that's given me like, the courage to pursue things that may be risky in terms of like, whether it's career, whatever. But so that in the long run I can look back and be like, I enjoyed my life. 

[CW: depression, suicide] For years, Zorhaish thought he just didn't have any interests. But looking back now, he knows he had severe depression. Luckily, once he was in college, Zohaish was able to get the therapy he needed. But therapy didn't just help with his depression—researching his own mental health revealed a deep interest in psychology, and inspired him to go down a whole new path.
