Day to Day

I hope to teach social science soon at a high school level. Right now, I'm a substitute teacher, so I fill in when teachers need to take a day off. It's great because I get exposure to different classrooms and grades. It's great to get exposure to different grade levels so I learn more about what I'm interested in.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

My background and history fuel my work. I was a former mediocre student who didn't value education. I woke up one day and had an epiphany about how important school is. I'd like to give back, and be there for youth who might be struggling with similar issues I dealt with. I want to inspire them to take their education seriously. For those whose grades aren't strong enough to apply for a 4-year (like me), I'll encourage to them consider community college as a great option to start.

Advice for Getting Started

Here's the first step for everyone

Finding a teaching gig can be tough! Become a substitute teacher, get to know different schools, meet different teachers. Build your network. Talk to folks in education industry.

Hurdles

The Noise I Shed

From Family:

"I was told I was a mediocre student from K-12 and that my grades weren't good enough for a 4-year college. My family was very unhappy with my academic performance. In fact, I was just lazy and never applied myself growing up."
