Milestones
My road in life has been direct.
In 1998 I was emancipated (became my own guardian) at the age of 16.
In 2000, I graduated high school with honors. Shortly thereafter, I joined the United States Navy so that I could pay for college.
After graduating boot camp, I reported to my first duty station at the U.S. Embassy in London. I had planned to attend college (undergrad) over my four-year enlistment obligation.
Shortly after reporting to my first duty station, the U.S. established the War on Terrorism. Since I was an active duty wartime service member, there was little time to attend college classes.
I reenlisted in 2004, and served my country until 2008. Upon my end of obligated service I was accepted to the University of Texas, Austin.
After attending UT Austin for approximately two years, I relocated to Connecticut and decided to pursue a business degree at UCONN. I was a single mother of two and worked full time for a tech firm.
In 2012 I graduated from UCONN. During this time, I was a grant writer / development director for a nonprofit. It was here that I realized I wanted to pursue a career in marketing and communications.
In 2013 I became a marketing and communications director at Travelers Insurance--I love my job. I am currently pursuing my MBA (full time) at UCONN and look forward to graduating in 2019!
