My road in life has taken me all over.
Decided at age 12 to get out of poverty.
Became a teen mother of a deaf child.
Realizing education was the key, I earned my BS degree in deaf education.
Got my first teaching job.
Nominated to the board of the American Society for Deaf Children, meeting other parents of deaf children.
Continuing my education, graduated from Univ of Oklahoma with Masters degree.
Worked at various schools.
Earned doctorate and first full time appointment as assistant professor at Univ of Tulsa.

Day to Day

I teach classes, "American Sign Language III" and "Language Development in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children", and then meet with independent study students. Then I do video conference meetings with the emergent literacy faculty research team, respond to emails, advise students, recruit students, write grants, and serve on committees.

Skills & Qualities Beyond School

Gain fluency in American Sign Language, educational neuroscience, and linguistics. Volunteer in the deaf community.

Visit local schools and observe teachers of the deaf.
