Founder and Creative Director
I am the founder of a full service design and experience studio.
Work days vary. Hours also vary as well and there are days I work 10+ hours in a day and there are days I don't work. An average day: Wake up and check emails. My assistant will come over and work on screen printing jobs. I will be in my office working on designs for projects. If I have any meetings, I will attend them while my assistant continues working. After work I'll exercise and/or start preparing dinner. I'll then work on various painting projects or commissions.
Practice your craft A LOT, Marketing, Interpersonal Communication, and Exercise. Surround yourself with other artists. Find things that inspire you. Learn from the greats, never copy them.
Here's the first step for college students
Be prepared to sell yourself. Take extra marketing classes. Learn how to communicate with people everywhere you wouldn't normally talk to. If you can't talk to a random person, it could be difficult to sell yourself. Network with people who are like minded and have similar or larger goals as you. Keep negative people out of your life. Learn to take criticism. Know you will hear a million "no's" before you hear "yes". Take it in stride, learn from it. Money is not steady and finances fluctuate.
"You should be a doctor or lawyer. Art is a hobby, not a career path."
Focus on yourself and do what you want in your life. No one will ever live your experiences, life choices, or know your feelings within. Only you can live it. Always be honest and upfront 100% and have the best intentions for everything you do. You will never have anything to worry about if you do. Always speak with clarity to avoid miscommunications. Do not worry if someone else can't handle the truth. Be selfish for your own betterment as a practitioner of your craft or career path.
In my career there sometimes isn't a steady check coming in. I have to always be mindful of my finances and keep a budget of things. If it's not within budget, it's not for me.
