It’s okay to shout from the rooftops that you’re different. The human race has benefited tremendously from people who think differently.

Milestones

My road in life has been direct.
Diagnosed with a learning disability in the third grade.
His teachers didn’t really know what to do with him, so they placed him into generalized special education classes.
By the end of high school, he had anxiety about his low reading and math scores, and felt like he wasn’t going to fit in at college.
He didn’t realize that once he went to college, there would be resources and accommodations that he could take advantage of.
Eventually, a counselor sat him down, looked over his files, and explained to him that there was nothing wrong with him; he just thought differently from other people.
Now he recognizes that the human race has benefitted from people that think differently, and he embraces his LD.
Says that the worst thing you can do is to feel ashamed of who you are; “that’s too heavy a weight to carry.”
When he was 17, he never would have said that he was proud to have an LD; now he travels the country telling audiences exactly that.
