Insurance Roadtrip

Insurance Roadtrip

What does it look like to confront risk face‐to‐face every day? To build a career—and a life—around unpredictable odds?

Every career contains an element of uncertainty. But for insurance professionals, risk isn’t just a sidelong possibility: it’s the job itself. That’s why this summer, with the support of Travelers, Roadtrip Nation is sending three young adults interested in the insurance industry on a road trip to uncover what it’s like to make improbability your profession. They’ll talk to people across the country to explore the risks behind betting against unknown odds—and the rewards of being able to help people when they need it most. Follow the road‐trippers’ journey below, then stay tuned to watch the series when it premieres.

JENNA

Age 21
From Detroit, MI

As a basketball fan who’s steadfastly loyal to her local Detroit Pistons, Jenna knows all about considering the odds before shooting your shot—it’s probably why she’s so drawn to risk management. But she didn’t always feel this way—when she first enrolled in college, she rejected the idea of pursuing an insurance major, believing her big personality would never fit into the plain box she’d believed the insurance industry to be. However, a counselor talked her into taking a few risk management classes, and before long, she’d added an insurance major to her already-packed schedule as a business major. Now that she’s discovered the field’s exciting world of risks and rewards, she’s eager to hit the road and show others why insurance is so awesome.

GABY

Age 21
From Port Talbot, Wales, U.K.

Gaby has already started down her path into insurance—she recently took a promising job at an auto insurance company in Wales—but she’s still in the process of weighing the risks and benefits of her choice. She definitely has the drive to succeed, but as a lover of data, she can’t shake the doubts that have been creeping in ever since she read that within the top 100 companies on the London Stock Exchange, there are more chief executives named John than there are chief executives who are women! That’s why she’s ready to sit down with strong female role models who can reaffirm her decision to enter the industry, and reassure her that she has what it takes to achieve her dreams.

ALAIN

Age 21
From Storrs Mansfield, CT

The son of Japanese immigrants and the younger brother of two successful older siblings, Alain has started to feel the pressure to find a lucrative career. A self-proclaimed “math guy” who can casually speak on probability distribution and ratemaking, he knows his actuarial sciences major could set him up for that desired success. But his interests aren’t confined to his left brain—he also loves music and art, and participates in his school’s acapella group—so he’s excited to explore careers in the insurance sphere that will let him indulge his creative spirit, while also allowing him to exercise his analytical talents.
