Roadtrip Nation: Partners

Sponsors
State Farm

State Farm has played a critical role in helping Roadtrip Nation get to where it is today. They are a big part of this story and because of their support millions of people have been able to experience this movement.

On our first roadtrip, we interviewed two leaders within State Farm: Chuck Wright and Frank Pignataro. Chuck shared with us the importance of integrity in business. This certainly impacted us at the time, but even more so a few years later when large corporate scandals, such as Enron, began to occur.

When our first roadtrip came to a close, and we began to explore different ways of sharing that experience, State Farm came back into the picture. At the time we had no PBS Series, book, our college movement -- all we had was our first, very grassroots, documentary. State Farm sponsored the first broadcast of that documentary on New York PBS Station. Around that time the first Roadtrip Nation book was released, national press began to share the Roadtrip Nation story and everything began to take off.

After the success of that broadcast, State Farm worked with us to create a national college tour that would help to share that same documentary to campuses across the country. We also began to broadcast that State Farm sponsored documentary on the local PBS Station in each college town we visited. This was the beginning of a long-term relationship between State Farm, Roadtrip Nation, the local college campus, and the local PBS Station.

As buzz started to build, and more students became interested in joining the movement, we worked with State Farm to create educational programs, such as "Behind the Wheel," that empowered other students to hit the road and interview leaders themselves. Launched on 20 college campuses in 2004, "Behind the Wheel" soon expanded to reach 1.2 million students on 100 colleges in 2005.

Because of State Farm's support, we also began to film these student roadtrips and edit that footage into an annual television series so that millions of others could discover their own passions -- even if they didn't hit the road in a Green RV.

Since that first documentary broadcast in New York, the Roadtrip Nation television series has been broadcasted on 99 stations in 2004, 250 stations in 2005, and will be broadcasted to 109,000,000 households on 320 PBS Stations, via PBS prime-time, in 2006.

State Farm continues to support and develop new educational programs with Roadtrip Nation. Launched in 2005, the "Roadtrip Grant" program will give hundreds of students the resources to hit the road in their own vehicles, and create this experience for themselves.

We're proud of our history with State Farm. We acknowledge that Roadtrip Nation would not be where it is today without them. We look forward to helping even more people hit the road to discover their passions in the years to come.

CPB

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967, whose mission is to facilitate the development of, and ensure universal access to, non--commercial high--quality programming and telecommunications services.

Roadtrip Nation has been awarded an "Outreach Grant" from CPB to mobilize a movement of students to hit the road and discover their own paths in life. The "Roadtrip Grant" program has been made possible by these CPB funds, empowering students on 100 colleges to explore the world by interviewing leaders from all walks of life and sharing those experiences via campus events, educational resources, and online.

To drive awareness of the Roadtrip Nation documentary series and to bring a new generation of viewers to public television, these funds are also being allocated towards a national outreach campaign on 100 Roadtrip Nation partner campuses. Elements of this public television campaign include college tours, events, educational resources, online outreach and localized film screenings via Roadtrip Nation promotional partners and local student representatives.

Roadtrip Nation is honored to have the support of CPB behind this movement, and remains enthusiastic about exposing students to the importance of independent channels of information, such as public television.

Promotional Partners
The Princeton Review
Roadtrip Nation is partnering with The Princeton Review to help high school students explore their passions, and align those interests with a college that is right for them. Every year more and more pressure is placed on high school students to get into the best college possible, but is this the best thing for the student? And why do students choose the schools they do -- because of their ranking? What if a student is passionate about design or sports, shouldnÕt they go to a college that has programs that can accentuate those passions?

The ethos behind The Princeton Review and Roadtrip Nation partnership is to help students everywhere to better identify their passions and then connect those with a college that encourages their individuality, rather than stifling it.

As part of the partnership, Princeton Review is creating Roadtrip Nation film screenings in 10 major cities. These events will share the latest Roadtrip Nation footage from interviews with others who have defined their own roads in life. These events will help students to critically think about their own passions, and how those can connect with a college that is right for them.

And students who receive a Roadtrip Grant from Roadtrip Nation will also be provided with a Lonely Planet guidebook to help create their trip.

National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS)
In college, the pressure to get good grades and stay at the front of the pack can be overwhelming at times. Especially for students who belong to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars -- an organization whose mission is to honor and inspire academic excellence and engaged citizenship for a lifetime.

To inspire and empower these students to explore the world around them, in addition to excelling in their studies, Roadtrip Nation offers Roadtrip Grants and other programs to NSCS students. These resources give them the opportunity to hit the road, create new experiences and interview leaders from all walks of life to learn how they got to where they are today.

Additionally, local NSCS student chapters who resonate with the Roadtrip Nation movement are hosting local events, screening the latest roadtrip footage and driving general grassroots awareness on their campus.

Roadtrip Nation is proud of our partnership with NSCS and is excited to work with their community of over 500,000 students and alumni to help them explore the world, and discover their roads in life.

MSN
Roadtrip Nation understands that more and more people want the freedom to learn based on their own choices and decisions. They want to decide what kind of information to experience, rather than being force fed.

To empower people to experience Roadtrip Nation content in this capacity, we have partnered with MSN to launch an extensive online Roadtrip Nation hub. Users can screen the latest interviews from the road, experience the reflections from students who are on the road, and learn how to create their own roadtrip experience.

Roadtrip Nation is excited to launch this partnership with MSN, because at its core, the Roadtrip Nation movement is not about "roadtrips", the Roadtrip Nation Movement is about exploration. And even though most people will never physically hit the road, the Roadtrip Nation Experience on MSN will still enable them to explore the world, and discover their own path in life.

PIX System
Throughout the production process for this year's series on PBS, Roadtrip Nation worked closely with PIX System to streamline our production process. PIX has enabled us to extend our collaboration and editorial processes to more individuals more quickly helping us achieve a much better television series. With our offices in California and Thirteen's offices in New York we used to send VHS tapes back and forth between each other to exchange ideas and get feedback on each episode during the 8 month editing cycle. This year through the support of PIX, we were able to take all our collaborating online. Click here to see more about the process and our partnership.
