Angelo M

After a steel mill bankruptcy, Angelo M (short for Melasecca) made the unlikely transition from steelworker to touring artist.   Reviews hail him a “Brilliant Guitarist” with an “Excellent Voice” and call his performance “Powerful” and “One of the Highlights”.  He won recognition in the prestigious "Mountain Stage" NewSong Contest & Billboard's annual Song Contest.  Angelo’s Debut CD received airplay across the US, as well as, in parts of Europe & Japan.  And his sophomore CD, STEELWORK (June 09) is showing promise to follow suit…Acoustic Live calls it “Brilliant”.

The folks at Acoustic Live also had this to say after seeing Angelo perform for the first time:   “Angelo M. made our jaws drop when he sat down and blistered the frets…After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I asked him, does Jorma Kaukonen know about you?”

Angelo’s a performing songwriter and virtuoso finger style & slide guitarist and Dobro player with a blues bent in the vein of Chris Smither.  He draws influences from Ry Cooder, Chet Atkins, Duane Allman and Leo Kottke. Though he has some great guitar chops, we’re not talking all guitar hero flash and no substance here.  Authenticity is at the core of Angelo’s performances; soulfully sung and at times biographical, his songs are seasoned with experience and retrospection. “I can relate to the reflection / regret, in this story... Man, the total of the lyric, singing and playing sound as real as Mississippi red clay.... Fantastic guitar solo ! – Taxi

Born in Philadelphia, and currently based in Central Pennsylvania (US) Angelo was influenced by music, as far back as, he can remember. With his older brothers all teenagers before he could walk Angelo’s house was filled with music. It was the twangy guitar sounds of the early sixties that planted the ambition in an eight-year-old boy to learn how to make his Christmas-present guitar reverberate just like Duane Eddy's. Before he was 10, Angelo had his first paying gig; by 11 his trio was playing old "pop" & country instrumentals for VFW Posts; by age 16 he was playing in high school bands and doing shore gigs. The most prolific band of his youth, The Four Sunns continued playing together for many years until family responsibilities pulled Angelo away from the music circuit; though he never put down his guitar. In 1990, Angelo began performing publicly again in a variety of set-ups from soloist to power trio; roadhouse boogie & blues band to the popular acoustic duo, Angelo & Paisley. But, it wasn't until recently that Angelo M. began his singer-songwriter & solo career in earnest when he left his decades-long job in a PA steel mill. Angelo has shared bills with many talented musicians including: Roger Mcguinn, John Sebastian, Dar Williams, Chris Smither, Shemekia Copeland, Cephas & Wigging, Peter Mulvey and more.  And whether it's his intricate finger-style on the acoustic guitar, some searing slide work on the Dobro or the high and lonesome strains of his mandolin, you'll be sure to enjoy this gifted artist who plays with the humility of someone who doesn't yet know just how good he is in the scheme of all things musical.
