BIOGRAPHY:

In 2006, Rex Doty got the idea of making wooden toys for children after seeing a TV show that would grant three wishes to people in different cities in America. He knew that the city of Las Vegas, Nev., could really use a giving hand like that. So, he started collecting donated scrap wood and set out to make 500 toys a year for children in need. Today, Toys 4 Smiles has 50 volunteers and gives out more than 80,000 wooden toys to nonprofit organizations and elementary schools in the Las Vegas area. "The big thing is that these kids get a toy from someone who doesn't even know them…If anything, they're going to know that someone cares about them; someone wanted them to be happy."
