RTN Roadtrip FAQ
What's the difference between an RTN roadtrip and an indie roadtrip?
RTN roadtrips usually take place during the summer, however this may vary depending on the country. A film crew tags along and the footage is aired on our annual PBS documentary series in the Fall.
Indie roadtrips are done by you, filmed by you, on your own time, in your own ride! You can plan it wherever you want, for however long you like. You can interview your uncle, or the Amazon.com president! Go by yourself, or go with friends! We'll hook you up with some gas money-all you have to do is
apply!
The application process...
How do I apply? What do I need to include in my application?
Check out the

When can I apply for the US RTN roadtrip?
We accept applications for our summer US RTN roadtrips only from January 1st to March 1st - no earlier, no later.
Can you send me back my application materials after you review them?
Sorry, application materials can't be returned. So if you'd like to keep your footage, please make a copy and send us the original.
Does my team have to have three members?
Yep.
How old do we have to be?
At least 18 years old.
Do we all have to be college students?
Preferably, yes. Or recently graduated.
What are you looking for in a RTN roadtrip team?
Authenticity. Curiosity. Drive. People who are looking to expand their understanding of life, who are able to ask the right questions of themselves and of the people they meet, who are willing to open themselves up to their generation-and are willing to grow.
When do I found out if my team was chosen?
Check the
apply page for dates and more info on our stage selection process.
Is it just us three on the RV for the whole 5 weeks?
Nope, you'll have company! Two friendly filmers will accompany you and your team in the RV for the duration of the trip.
How long is the RTN roadtrip? When does it take place?
RTN roadtrips normally last 5 weeks. They take place during the summer, typically in the month of July.
Do we actually have to sleep in the RV?
Of course!
Do we have to drive the RV? I don't know how to do that!
Yes, your team will be the ones behind the wheel of the big green RV. But fear not! You all will get a crash course in RV operation, taught by some of the most skilled RV drivers this side of the Mississippi!
Where do we travel? Who do we get to talk to?
It's all up to you. You and your team will be responsible for planning your route and booking all of your interviews (at least 30!).
Does anyone ever get voted off the RV?
Um...no.
