Beth McCarthy Miller found herself in leadership roles in high school. She built on this natural talent by going to University of Maryland where she double majored in radio, TV, film, and government and politics. After an internship at CNN, she learned that she didn’t enjoy hard news, so she focused her efforts toward something that she was passionate about, music. She had a relative who worked in MTV that gave her a foot in the door and got her a job as an assistant to one of the network's vice presidents. He was so pleased with her work that she did that he had to work on the MTV Video Music Awards. She went on to direct the Video Music Awards five times and today is doing some seriously fun stuff as the director of Saturday Night Live.
